New moder (Please Help!)

So i want to start moding minecraft java edition and i have no idea where to start. I have jdk installed and i think thats the program i want to use but i have no idea how to get it to even run or how to use it so any help would be very appreciated. i have a very limited understanding of coding and JavaScript so please explain in layman's terms!
