How to use a brush in world edit to paint the ground as grass?

please forgive me as in a noob with this mod but i was wondering if there was a way to use a brush to replace everything but air with grass blocks?
so for example ive got a large area thats stone and several different ores is there a way to use the brush to paint it to grass?
maby using masks but I'm not 100% shure.
