Commands blocks in sequence? (New to Commands)

New to command blocks so I'm probably going to need quite a bit of help.
I want to use commands to give the illusion of a group of blocks moving along the ground. I'm slowly figuring out how to make blocks appear and vanish in the patterns I need: but I don't yet know how to set up the blocks/commands so that if I send a Redstone pulse into the first one that the others will then activate their programs at the appropriate timing.
Anyone got some advice or tutorials that could help?
