How far away from my village can I place a bed and not have it count towards my village bed count?

I have a village and away from it I built a dock with boats etc. It's close but not really that close. I have a fishing shack there with a bed in it. How far away does a bed need to be to not count towards my population count?
Is there any way to determine if a bed has someone assigned to it or not?
Same question for trade blocks?
Is there a way to add a bed for my own personal use only that won't spawn a villager? Every time I go looking for one all the beds are filled it.

I seem to have 1 person in the village without a trade and as far as I can tell the same number of beds as tradeblocks.
