A question about water behavior...

I remember it being that when you use to place a water block on the side of a cliff, a 1x1 stream would move down until it hit a solid block of some sort.
I just started again today, and now a 2x1 stream forms...
I just installed the DokuCraft texture pack.
Any ideas?
