did I cheat on Intersect?

so.. I first built Stells up to unit capacity by mistake, and couldn't figure out why they weren't climbing walls (new to Erekir). then when I finally got mechs, I took them around the left and hit the Core:Bastion from behind. think it was over in like 5 waves? built 3 Meruis. I didn't have to take over any other cores and didn't face any significant opposition anywhere. was there another way to do it?
