Not sure if i am the only one, but i think it would be very enjoyable to play as a Private Military Company. Meaning that one starts eith limited cash and manpower and no real territory basically using a mechanic similar to "sending volunteers" to struggle in ongoing conflicts. You basically make money by achieving objectives like taking victory points, causing enemy casualties etc. and then scale and grow by gaining popularity and getting more manpower (new mercenarys) from decisions. At first you are just in one conflict and struggle not to get decimated, but late game you have units in like 10 wars. Let me know ehat you think about this and feel free to share your ideas!
