I’m 29m.. I have been working since I was 15. Past 19, I never really took a break or went on vacation. This isn’t a flex, I was living paycheck to paycheck.. I couldn’t enjoy time off. Living with awful roommates and barely affording to feed myself.
I consider myself working class because I’m not lucky and have a bachelors degree, I have an associate’s degree but that means fuck all to most companies. The industry I’m in now (insurance) doesn’t even require a degree. I’m finally at a place where I make a “living” wage, but goddamn it took me almost 2 decades to get there. I started from minimum wage ($7.25/hr).
I took my first vacation in god knows how long by myself last month. Ever since then, I’ve never felt so burnt out. I move every year to “fight” inflation because every lease term whatever apartment I’m in raises the rent by 50% or more, I’m in a new job every 2 years cause I know the next one will offer more money. I’m in a good place now kind of.. but wow I sure do feel burnt out. Anyone else feeling a similar feeling?
