Iāll admit, for the longest time I thought I was on the younger side of gen x. But as it turns out, Iām just on the older cusp of Millennial. Ok, cool. As I approach 40 this weekend, Monday in all truth, I canāt help but think back through all the shit we have been through in our paths so far. The rise of the internet, cellular technology, wireless, hell if you had told 16 year old me that I would be able to run gigabit internet speed by the time I was 30 Iād have called you insane. But going from where we were to the point we are now, I really have to stand back and appreciate our generation. And not just for the tech side of things.
We have really brought mental health to the forefront. No longer do we have to āSuck it up and be a manā. No, I have feelings and they are justified. We donāt have to keep it to ourselves anymore, thanks to our gen, help is out there. Granted, it still kinda sucks in the US of A, but dammit itās there.
We managed to survive terrorist attacks, Okc bombing and 9/11 as examples, the rise of school shootings, and some pretty shitty economic waves (looking at you, 2008). We survived a āpandemicā and most of us are still here to keep going. We survived two major wars and several other conflicts. And yes, Iām pouring one out to our fallen comrades. We survived.
Other gens have had their share of bad luck, but for the love of all that is good in this world, I beg you to stop and take a look at what all youāve managed to survive. It really is something no other generation can account for right now. We did this.
So for anyone who needs to hear it, Iām proud of you for making it this far. We really are amazing.
