I'm a late-stage GenX, 1976 vintage. I've lived through all the tropes and the memes that describe the GenX life. I was a latchkey kid, I played in the dirt with a stick, I recorded songs off the radio with my cassette player, I can program a VCR and I got whipped with a belt.
But to be perfectly honest I don't really feel like a GenX. I don't have that jadedness or the feeling of being overlooked by life. I really think my mindset and my ideals are more in line with the Millennials. I don't like seeing what has happened to my Boomer parents and aunts and uncles (even some cousins too), the way the world is being run is a total cluster-you-know-what. I have fears and doubts about the future, especially for my Zoomer kid (or whatever comes after the Zoomers, he hasn't quite hit his teen years yet).
I guess what this random Tuesday morning brain dump boils down to is this: when the stuff eventually does hit the fan, I'd be more comfortable standing ground with you all than with my own group. I just feel like I don't think the same way other Vietnam-era babies do.
