My previous post about stomping with boots was rather well received. Thanks guys :D
Here's another of my stories that is a little more light hearted.
We had a notoriously strict and explosive company sergeant major in my company during basic training. He was a really old-school staff sergeant that had this crazy bunch of stories follow him. One of them was that he was deranked to staff (a majority of other companies has warrant officers as their CSM) was that there was a recruit that argued back to him a few years back and he ended up punching the recruit. Not sure how true this is, but I hope it paints the picture of what kind of guy this CSM is.
Luckily for us, his wife had just gave birth to his child just before we enlisted and my platoon sergeant was the acting CSM while the CSM was on childcare leave, which was very often at the start.
Towards the end of our basic training he returned though. But according to a number of our sergeants, he had mellowed out quite a lot. So while he didn't had many violent streaks anymore, he did come up with very..... let's say creative punishments.
This was one of them that almost everyone in the company found hilarious.
We were having a range shoot the week after our out field exercise. Orders were to clean our helmet straps from all the camo paint so that it wouldn't stain our faces when we wore it for the shoot. This Recruit didn't clean his well enough and was caught by the CSM.
CSM: "OI RECRUIT!! YOU WANT TO BE DIRTY RIGHT?! YOU WANT TO BE DIRTY? FINE! YOU GO AND CAMO ON NOW AND DO THE REST OF THE SHOOT IN CAMO!"
Poor guy was the only guy in the company with full camo on his face, neck and hands during a training shoot that was meant to be a simple straightforward exercise to familiarise us with the rifles.
