My grandfather was in the Army, and he worked on Shermans, but I hear there were multiple variants of the Sherman, and I'm trying to figure out which variant he worked on, and how I can use as close to the exact color of paint that would have been used on them, as well as exactly what insignia and other markings would've been on them. All this is so I can build a model as close to what he actually would've worked on as possible, not counting the inner workings, of course, as I doubt anyone makes models that are that detailed, but hey, what do I know, maybe that's a thing. I also want to paint a Gundam model of the (Gundam Ez-8](https://1999.co.jp/itbig21/10214087a.jpg) in the exact color of the tanks he worked on, and decorate it with the various markings the tanks would've had on them, and have it next to the tank model. Where can I find this information? I intend to ask family for any information they have, but I was hoping these details were kept by some people who are really into tanks and have catalogued little details like this. Thanks for any help you can give me. Is there another sub that I should ask as well?
