I was a photographer in the US Air Force. During basic training we went to the shooting range to train with our m16s. My trainer in basic noticed I was aiming wrong, I was right hand dominant but left eye dominant so he told me to switch hands. I did what I was told and my accuracy slightly improved but this is where I learned a valuable lesson.
I didn't have my cuffs buttoned at the time and I learned why you're suppose to button those. With my hands now I'm the opposite position the shells ejecting from the m16 flew out and straight into my unbuttoned cuff and up my sleeve to my elbow burning the crap out of my elbow. I was a stupid kid and embarrassed so I did the only logical thing; I kept firing, hiding my mistake and the burns I was getting from each shell that ejected. When we finished we were told to pick up our shells but mine where literally all inside my sleeve. So I walked over to my trainer and looked him in the eyes are I lowered my sleeve towards the bucket dumping all my shells like a cartoon character. 🤣
It was obvious he was holding back laughter but i got a sense of respect from him because I wasn't visibly wincing in pain and I wasn't complaining. He still told my dumb ass to go to medical to treat the burns but I swear he seemed to go easier on me after that day.
