Obligatory; new here sorry if this is the wrong place/against rules
TL;DR at bottom
I was obsessed with LoTR as a kid, still am, but back then it was orders of magnitude more. I used to RP in this forum that I can’t remember the name of. Found the GamesWorkshop miniatures at a local hobby shop and went bananas. I saved up every dollar I had to buy box sets, scoured eBay for deals etc. etc. I amassed a pretty big collection, but was always more of a loner and never had anyone to play with.
My dad, HATED it. He refused to ever play with me, even when I tried to simplify the rules because he thought it was too complicated, and just generally made me feel bad about being interested in the hobby. I signed up for a meet up and built an army within specifications and even worked a bit at painting them (it required them to be at least 3 colors) but I liked the battling more than the painting, plus I have a neurological condition that makes fine motor skills like that difficult. My dad flakes on me and wouldn’t take me to that meet up or any others for that matter.
Eventually I moved on from it, found other things, grew up, tried to be more social in high school, went to college, and just generally logged it in reasons I don’t really speak to my parents.
I’m 26 now, just moved to Denver, and found this sub and it has rekindled my interest.
I was wondering if anyone knew of any groups in the area, or more current resources than the guide book I got in 2005 or whatever. Anything to get back into the hobby. I’m never going to be able to paint like some of the figures posted here, but I loved making scenery and set pieces, and I have a large (but again mostly unpainted) host of miniatures.
TL;DR: Was interested as a kid, found this sub and want to get back into it for the first time. Looking for groups or resources in the Denver area or online.
