I’m making a medieval supplement for the new edition of MESBG and I’m creating a few new things. . I have a new Volley Fire rule. In my supplement, as of right now, all armies follow the GOOD shooting rules. But I’m changing the volley fire…. Does this make sense as a home brew rule??? Just looking for useful feedback 💜 let me know if it’s confusing. This is the first time I’ve made rules for a tabletop game, so I’m still trying to find proper phrasing….. anyways: tell me what you think.

NEW HEROIC ACTION: Volley Fire: A hero may call “Volley Fire” to direct a barrage of arrows at a target area. All ranged units within 6” of the hero may fire a volley of arrows at the enemy. Hero must select a single point on the battlefield that is within LOS, and within range of every friendly unit taking part in the action. Units will all fire at once, counting each actual hit. Every model within 6” of the designated point may get hit! The players rotate selecting targets, starting with the firing player. On a roll of 1, 2, or 3, the model takes a hit. Resolve the hit as usual. On a roll of 4, 5, or 6, the model is not hit by the arrow. DO NOT DISCARD the hit! Players rotate until all actual hits have been resolved. This Heroic action may be used even if there are friendly models in the target area. EX: You call Volley fire, and 5 archers take place in the Volley. Pick a point on the battlefield, and FIRE! Roll 5 dice for each archer. Good Job! You scored 6 Primary Hits! Now, select a model to get hit, within 6” of the selected point. You roll the d6, and get a 5. That model is not hit. Keep selecting models til that Primary Hit scores an Actual Hit in the Volley. Your opponent then selects a mini, and you roll a 3! That mini now takes the Actual Hit. Resolve this as normal. The mini has D3, normal bow is S2. You then roll a 6 and score a kill. That Primary Hit is now resolved, and you have 4 more to resolve.
