I just want to preface by saying that I'm not claiming to be some kind of financial guru. But this is a good topic for the middleclass to discuss since it affects all of us.
Why does the govt have so much power over the economy?? Even when its in debt 35 trillion.
For this reason im all in on the Govt(when it comes to my personal finances. )
Im heavily invested in my 401k(since the markets are dependent on unlimited govt bailouts. (And no politician will allow true price discovery on their watch). I have a govt job, govt subsidized healthcare. Paying into a government pension. Live in govt rent stabalized apartment.
My view is that when the govt can no longer raise the debt ceiling...everything will come crashing down anyway. So it makes no sense to buy the home that you live in as an investment since they have high carrying cost And property tax that rises. (If I had a wife and family then I would need to buy out of necessity but not as investment).
And most of the common retirement vehicles mentioned in this subreddit are all dependent on the government in some way or another. I think we all need to collectively come to terms that we are making a bet/gamble on the government to continue going into debt forever to keep this going for us so our retirement can be sustained when we reach old age.
Inflation sucks...but hey the govt doesn't care. Might as well ride the money printer all the way up.
Lets discuss
As another post said, if the government goes belly up you have way more to worry about than your 401k. If this is the top of your list buy canned food and ammo rather than stocks. The debt is still relatively small in relation to GDP.
