Excuse my language but I am completely losing my fucking mind on page numbering.
So my first page is a title page that I don't need numbered.
My second page is a table of contents (just one page) that has to have a roman numeral i as the page number.
Then the remaining pages from 3 onward have to be numbered using normal numbers starting at 1.
No matter what I do, I cannot get the page numbers to work. The third page (which needs to be numbered 1) insists on being numbered 3. This is despite putting in a section break on the previous page (continuous or next page makes no difference), and also going into the formatting of page numbers and specifically telling that page to start at 1.
It is completely ignoring all commands I am giving it and I'm ready to pull my hair out in frustration because I don't understand why it won't work. I am specifically telling it to do something and it is blatantly ignoring it.
Can someone please help me with this?
Edit: I figured it out. I needed to ensure that the page break between page 2 and 3 was a 'next' page break and then all the remaining pages needed to be 'continuous' page breaks. I was making the mistake of either doing all next, which screwed up the page numbers all the way down, or doing all continuous, which screwed up the starting page number. Thank goodness.
