So confused on this Ultimate Game Pass...

So i dont have XBL right now but have the Game Pass for a couple months. What im reading and confused on is if u DONT have XBL, u should get it BEFORE buying UGP because it will convert XBL into UGP, so there for how ever long u have XBL will be UGP instead so essentially it will be $1 for 12 months or whatever?
