35lb Limit for Life?

Post Body

I had my L5/S1 surgery on 5/28 and had issues with my incision opening up and getting infected. It’s still open but sooooo close to being closed. I just saw my surgeon today and he’s so happy with how it’s healing, but he told me I’m limited to 20lbs for another month then I can go up to 35lbs and that’s forever.

I was a little shocked. I said what if I have kids? He said 50lbs is max and pushing it. I used to do higher than that in the gym and he recommended lower weight/higher rep which I used to do as well.

But 35lbs just seems unrealistic. I’m thinking moving, laundry, things like that. I’m not saying I’m going to go against his advice, but I am curious what other surgeons have said or what others have experienced?
