I'm confused. All the folks supporting line 5 staying open state that closing it will choke off the US of Canadian oil, and some say Canads will cripple our economy if we stop importing via line 5.
Proponents of closing it staet the Upper Peninsula will be ok not receiving the minimal amount of propane that it gets from line 5.
The two opposing arguments do not work as they do not agree on what line 5 is.
Wikipedia and anti-shutdown groups claim it is strictly oil flowing south from Canada.
Enbridge (the folks who own and operate it) as well as pro-shutdown groups say it is strictly propane heading north to Rapid River.
I tend to believe the owners of the line that it is propane, but then why is there such a severe disconnect with the opponents?
I dont want this to be an angry left vs right discussion, but I litterally cannot come to an educated conclusion with the info being so far off.
To me, it seems that there us fear mongering coming from the opposition. Shut down, acc6to them, will cause massive casualties to our economy, destroy relations with Canada, and oil is always an emotional subject, so it would cause more of a reaction from folks who are usually leaning that way.
Propane and low usage are the main points of the shutdown team. Minimizing importance and leaning into environmental concerns tends to be more their MO, using "facts and science" to push their case.
So what's actually going on?
