As a grown adult, and a manager at all my previous jobs in life and now as well, Why is it so hard for Managers and leaders to say thank you?
An occasional "Hey! I saw what you did, it looked great, I appreciate that!"
And following up with genuine and real interest in what they're doing goes a Lonnngggg way I've found, and its stuff I strive to implement.
So Why is it that for managers who are knowledgeable, good at their jobs, and otherwise fine to work for, does this seem to be an area that needs improvement?
I'm an ASM, I've been holding down the fort for the last 3 weeks while my SMs been in another city helping out, and upon coming back, no real hello, not a hey thanks for doing all those Task assignments prepping documents and items for This weekends make breaks, upcoming training in the store, deep cleaning the mezz, backroom and classroom (dumpzone apparently).
Just dropped by to say "hey could you help recover it looks bad right now" literally an Hour before I leave, After business has taken its toll on the store.
Our recognition board hadn't been used for months before I got here, and the last ace award before I got the one in there was from Last Year, and truly, I think they're a great mentor, but it just irks me when I see Managers who have been at it so long not be strong celebrators of success.
You break morale, you let it slips, people leave
Ted talk over, sigh.
