My 96 1.8 engine blew, thought I was getting a similar engine and got a 1.6 instead.
Post Body

First things first, for anyone else who may need this bit of advice; read the full description when buying online and don’t just go with the title...

My M editions 1.8 heart died out last month, and now I find myself with a 1.6 trying to weigh out all my options. My priorities are just getting the car running. It was my daily and my spouse would like their car back.

To get to the point, should I try and make the 1.6 work? Or is it not worth the time and effort? I would be taking a hit on restocking fees if I send the engine back, essentially a quarter of what I paid. I’ve tried searching for write ups or forum posts on a 1.8 to 1.6 swap and have pretty much found posts that say “you can do anything, but that’s dumb”.

Any insight would be immensely appreciated.
