Hey Guys, I've been trying to swap out my stock double din stereo out with a nice shiny new sony single din in my 92 Miata. I've done all the wiring, and it sounds fantastic, however I can't install the thing in the dash. I took the brackets off the old stereo, but they don't line up to any of the holes to be able to screw it into the new one. The cage that comes with the stereo, is too big to fit in the hole, but even if it did fit, there is nothing for the tabs to lock into.
So! How on earth have you guys got your single din stereos in your na's? I see a metra kit out there which appears to be a piece of shit according to the reviews. I'm getting to the point of trying to fabricate a replacement bracket that will fit the screw holes on the radio. But knowing that lots of you have already been through this, there must be an easier way?
Please help, it's sunny outside and I can't drive my Miata! :(
UPDATE: Ok, thanks for the replies guys. I decided to give the Metra kit a go, as it's only $16. It came today and was relatively easy to install, I had to dremel away the bottom corners as they were square and the whole it was to fit in is beveled on the corners. Soooo, ok it's in, it looks okish, I can't yet get the little trim piece around the headunit and the little cubby is so small my phone won't fit into it. But, like I said, it's 16 bucks so it'll do for now. I think I will eventually give the ddmworks cage a try when I'm ready to turbo, so I can use the gauge cutouts as well. However for 80 bucks, it had better look better than this one. :)
But I now have lovely tunes coming from my speakers, stream from my phone and things are good in Miata land again.
