Not a fan of Metroid but am curious about Dread which games should I play first?

I don't expect there to be a great deal of interconnectivity between titles since it's a Nintendo game that started on NES, but I generally just like having some degree of series context and feel like checking out the older titles would be a good way to decide whether or not I wanna lay down the europounds for this new game.
I feel like I should at the very least try the first one though I am aware there was a GBA remake of it, Zero Mission. I'm assuming there'd be no point playing the original over that?
Other than that, which games should I check out, and is there a recommended order I should go through them?
