In Metroid Prime Remastered, what god awful control scheme can you do to lock on + charge beam + press missile button = to release a super missile?

I feel like I have to do the claw to get this maneuver executed. Any tips on how to use super missiles easier?
For example:
Hold zL to lock on hold zR to charge, how do you press R to shoot the missile?
Or
Hold zL to lock on hold A to charge, you can press R to shoot the missile (with your pointy finger) but you lose control of the right stick (because your thumb is pressing A to charge).
This finger gymnastics is killing the fun.
