Stephen Mihm, a professor in the History Department of the Franklin College of Arts and Science in Georgia recently wrote an article about America's use of the metric system for the Wall Street Journal. (The article is behind a paywall, so I can't quote any of it.)
UGA Today summarises the article and ends with a very depressing prediction:
Historians and researchers agree that America will remain in a state of hybridization for seven or more generations before fully adopting the metric system, if ever.
