as the title suggests, i’ve been taking 8mg buprenorphine for almost 8 years now, but aside from the reduction/elimination of cravings (for the most part), i really dislike the fluctuating blood plasma levels that comes along with daily dosing of Suboxone and the inconvenience of not being able to speak/eat/drink/smoke while the film dissolves under my tongue. i’ve also been having a lot of trouble as of late finding a reasonable and understanding doctor that is comfortable with keeping me at the dose that i’ve found has kept me stable. i’ve heard from many people including my best friend that a lot of things improved for him after switching from bupe to methadone. i have state-sponsored Medicaid health insurance with EmblemHealth through New York State and that adds even more difficulty trying to find a doctor that accepts it to cover the full cost of my Suboxone prescription and doctor visits. as of right now, my medication regimen consists of:
Suboxone (buprenorphine/naloxone) 8mg/2mg 1x daily Effexor XR (venlafaxine hydrochloride) 150mg daily (to treat my Major Depressive Disorder and Generalized/Social Anxiety Disorder) Xanax (alprazolam) 2mg 2x daily (as needed, to treat my Panic Disorder) Halcion (triazolam) 0.5mg [2x 0.25mg] (as needed for insomnia at bedtime) Adderall IR (d/l amphetamine mixed salt combo) 15mg 3x daily (as needed for ADHD inattentive type)
from what i’ve heard from a lot of people, they’d been having much better experiences on methadone rather than bupe. does anyone have any similar positive outcomes after switching and should i give it a shot?
