Recently, I went through Triviums discography, a lot more fun than I expected. Before this I had only listened to Ascendancy and Shogun all the way through. Going from 1-10 (best to worst)
In Waves (most consistently good, fewest skips, most varied songwriting)
Ascendancy (nostalgic, first record I heard from them, full of iconic metalcore riffs, great solos, the harmonized leads at the end of the title track, only 2 songs I don't care for are Dying in your Arms and Departure)
The Sin and The Sentence (Matt's best vocal performance imo, more great songwriting)
In the Court of the Dragon (BEST guitar playing from Matt and Corey, title track and Crisis of Revelation are 2 new favorites.
Silence in the Snow (Amazing vocals from Matt, lot of groove in the riffs and the bass is clanky as hell in a lot of songs which I love, songwriting is kind of boring at times.)
Shogun (very fun songwriting in the first half, probably the most varied vocals, quality dips in the latter half, songwriting gets repetitive, song structures are kind of samey.)
What the Dead Men Say (Great riffs, songwriting is a little inconsistent, lyrics can be cringe at times)
Ember to Inferno (Pillars of Serpents is a classic metalcore track, crazy that Matt was like 17 on this thing, dude could fucking shred.)
The Crusade (a couple of fun tracks here like Unrepentant, Entrance of the Conflagration, and Becoming the Dragon, a lot of the songwriting is seriously uninspired, probably Matt's worst vocal performance. Really cringe lyrics here and there. Would be lower if not for the good tracks and trying some new things, even if they don't pan out)
Vengeance Falls (straight fuckin cheeks bro. At the End of this War and Villainy Thrives are decent, everything else fucking blows ass, sorry to any Vengeance Falls truthers out there.
