If an item drops automatically, like how the lanterns drop moths, then in order to maximize your total drops place the lantern with nine empty spaces surrounding it. If the lantern does not have empty spaces around it, then it can store two moths. So by placing it with empty spaces surrounding it, then you increase the drops from 2 to 11.
