Refused to sell to me after I returned an item that was damaged?

The title pretty much says it all but I was just curious if this is a common thing? I bought something on Mercari and it arrived damaged so I went through and did a return on it after messaging the seller, and that’s what they told me to do. They had another one of the same thing listed so I decided to buy it again. Later they told me they will no longer sell to me and then blocked me. Was I in the wrong at all?
