Tl:dr had my first purchase and the buyer was amazingly friendly. He even offered to be my first sale to help me with feedback. Also took about an hour of his day just helping me learn about selling cards on Mercari. Couldn’t be more thankful or pleased!
Just wanted to share the experience to put some positive between all the negative threads.
I’ve been selling on eBay for about 6 months and have been doing great. Recently sales stagnated so I decided to expand my buyer pool. I listed about 20 items and was shocked at the amount of eyes I got on them. Like 20 in first hour. But no one wanted to buy from me as I have no fedback and am new. I decided I’d try buying an item to get those up.
First item I bought was a super friendly seller and I reached out to him and inquired about his experience. He was incredibly gracious with his time and ran me through some tips and tricks. Not only that, he told me he’d help me out by being my first buyer! He told me some players and teams he liked and I went and listed a few of what I could find. He ended up teaching me what a bundle is and I got my first review!
That was 3 days ago and I’ve had 4 sales since. His package drops tomorrow so I’ll get my first seller review. All 3 additional buyers have been a pleasure to work with so far. I sell trading cards and pride myself on my secure packaging whether it’s envelope or poly bag. Because of the additional protection I use, I tend to ship less quantity then some per package. It’s an easy fix by doubling up cards per sleeve and I confirmed it was ok as some sellers are picky. Everyone has been delightful.
I’ve had a few super low ball offers but I see the side gig as essentially a customer service job. Yes I do other stuff, but how I found success on eBay was to always be communicative and responsive to customers. Easy to decline or counter offer. I suppose if I ever do cross list my 500 eBay listings and had lowballs all day every day I’d be annoyed. But it’s literally how bartering works and resale to me is a bartering business.
Anyways, I’ve been searching this sub for awhile and see a lot of horrors. Figured I’d put a happy story in here to break it up. I’m looking into getting a cross listing tool to get on Mercari full time too. Anyone got a good program they use to cross list with Mercari integration? Would love if it could auto update sold out items if I sell on one platform.
