I am posting this in the hopes of getting ideas on how I could have gone about this particular buying experience differently. I bought a 2017 MacBook Air in "Like New" condition. The seller didn't ship it with a charger and it was totally dead when it arrived. I couldn't find a charger anywhere that I could buy right away so I had to order one which took 2 days to arrive. When the charger finally arrived and I was able to power it up it had no OS on it and it wouldn't let me put one on it. I took it to Apple the very next morning (still barely within the 3 days) and they opened it up to find a broken hard drive and frame where the hard drive is supposed to go. It was screwed together with some rando screws that were not Apple approved. Then the 3 days time expired and I had no recourse. I notified the seller with pictures taken by Apple which she vehemently denied. Bottom line, Mercari told me there was nothing I could do. The seller got her money AND her 5 star rating. The seller ultimately blocked me. How could I have done anything diffently to keep from having to eat the cost (minus the $40.00 I made when I relisted and sold it for parts)?
