False accusations: a discussion that hurts

Post Body

I have discussed with a closed female friend who is not a male hater and pretty opened to exchanges. We were talking about #metoo and alike. She told me some artist was just accused for sexual harrassment and she decided to cancel him. I told her that she should wait at least to see what the justice says because false accusations exist. She said that she won't wait because "it's almost sure he done it, in 99% of cases the man is guilty". I told her that I don't believe these figures, but even so, he should have the benefit of doubt. She said, "anyway most men of power abuse women so if one says she was assaulted she should be believed and it's up to the guy to prove later he's innocent, and even if he's innocent, it's better to sacrifice some innocents to make justice to the millions of assaulted women."

I was shocked because I thought my friend was someone sensible to real "justice". In fact, not so much. An innocent man can be sacrificed for the "greater good". Maybe making him to lose reputation, job, family and pushing him to suicide. I told her that and she replied "yeah, sacrificing some innocent guys to make justice for millions of female victims is the lesser evil".

There's were our moral paths split.
