I was never sure where to post this kind of question, but I found this place and wanted to give it a try.
I was inspired after snooping and seeing a post about the Titanic and how even young boys were denied in favor of women and girls. I have always noticed this, but it especially came to my attention recently with the war in Gaza. Why do so many news outlets report things like "200 Killed, Including Women and Children" with emphasis on the latter as if it's all of a sudden a tragedy when women die? What about the men? Why does an entire gender go unnamed as if it's normal or expected, but the minute women get involved, now it was taken too far? Why the infantilization and lumping them with children? Why are innocent men treated like acceptable casualties? It should just be "200 People Killed", not "200 People Killed, Including Women". Or am I just an asshole and this is the way life has to be?
I've tried talking to other's about this when I come across this issue on places like instagram, but of course I am met with being called a coward, incel, misogynist, or outright ignored for even daring to go against the grain and ask this question. Men and women equally get upset about this. In my opinion, this is where "chivalry" is taken way too far and I wish it would stop.
I know the obvious answer is that this is a social conditioning issue, but I wonder if anyone else has noticed this and take offense to it like I do. I wish men weren't such after thoughts in tragic events.
