My husband (a daily sauna enthusiast), sent me an article/listical about using a sauna to alleviate some of the menopause symptoms. They list several of the usual banes of my existence, but I was wondering if anyone else has tried incorporating a sauna routine? Getting in a super hot box for 20 minutes every night does not sound like a good time...
From the article, Discovering Menopause Relief with Infrared Sauna Therapy
Alleviating Hot Flashes: Using heat to combat hot flashes might seem counterintuitive, but it works wonders. As menopause lowers estrogen levels, vital proteins that regulate body temperature decrease too. Research has shown that using an infrared sauna three times a week can stimulate the production of these proteins and estrogen levels (source), potentially reducing the frequency and severity of hot flashes.Â
Enhancing Sleep and Reducing Stress: Sleep disturbances are common during menopause, but infrared sauna therapy can promote relaxation and improve sleep quality (source). It triggers the release of endorphins, our natural stress relievers (source), and soothes your muscles and mind4. Many women, like myself, have experienced improved sleep quality with just a 20-minute sauna session before bedtime. My Sunlighten sauna uses ultra-low EMF technology and is part of my nighttime routine.
PS: I am fairly certain that while my husband does mostly want to help me feel better, it won't hurt him one bit to enjoy a daily 20-minutes-naked-in-a-box-together. Maybe that's just the cynical, frustrated side of me.
Edit to add: also, I'm pretty sure sitting in a hot box is going to mess up my estrogen patch!
