I’ve seen so many people get upset about this. The prosecution was upset about it during trial. Male jurors were apparently upset about it during deliberations. People are upset about it on this sub.
I really don’t get it.
Maybe this is an Aussie thing but I’ve always used the term “boys” for a group of men regardless of age.
Like if I’m ever in a group of people and we happen to split up into gender it’s always “the boys are going to go do this” and “the girls are going to do this”. Regardless of age.
Saying “the women are going to go watch a movie” and “the men are going swimming” sounds like we’re in a nature documentary 😂
Like my dad is middle aged and he goes on “boys weekends” not “mens weekends”.
It’s my understanding that Americans tend to be more formal and conservative with their speech, but still, calling the brothers “the men” just doesn’t sound grammatically correct when used in the same way as using “the boys.”
A good middle ground I suppose, if you really are that against saying “the boys” is saying “the guys”.
Saying “the men” to me just means grammatically you are referring to a pattern of male behaviour. Eg. The men are angry at the Haebus Corpus ruling. How are we supposed to know whether that means Lyle and Erik or a general consensus amongst the male population?
