The discourse from the show is so triggering to me

Without getting into it, I relate to some of their childhood. The difference was that I actually turned out to be gay, the courts (and now the public) accusing Erik of being gay is so upsetting to see because it feels like they are saying that if you are gay, you must have wanted it. The worst thing someone has ever said to me (other than actual threats to do it) was saying I must have enjoyed it.

I can't believe in 2024 we are still speculating on his sexuality, Ryan Murphy has such a fascination with things like this. In so many of his shows, male assault is handled appallingly bad. He sees rape as an easy thrill. Seeing people characterize them as evil sociopaths who faked their emotions in court is so heartbreaking. Those tears were real. I don't care what some backseat psychologist sitting on their couch thinks. Those boys were not lying.

I don't want to make this situation about me but this has probably been the most triggering media frenzy i've seen in real time that i can recall. It's personally even more triggering than the Nickelodeon scandal (not to say either were worse than the other) because at least the public were not blaming the kids. millions of people now think they were incestuous and that is so sad. The public is already sexualizing them in such a weird way. They were people. They are people. I just cant believe people would watch a show about their sexual abuse while eating popcorn and gossiping about them like its some teen drama. I don't care if it humanizes them at times, it's still harmful. I know people will say "they were just presenting the public's theories of them" but would you say that to any other rape survivor? Would you make a show about Drake Bell and convince the audience of some gross dehumanizing fabricated theory? Drake Bell has also done bad stuff, but no one would say the things this show said about him. Clyde Barrow murdered his rapist and there aren't huge debates about if he lied. They portray Lyle as some crazed angry man when his family says this was laughably incorrect. They were practically kids, man..
