I felt it was time to make a post like this. I used to moderate this subreddit, a passion I pursued for almost a year and a half. When I offered to moderate the subject back in September 20, 2022, it was because I cherished it deeply, and saw it was falling into disrepair, with posters from other countries, scammers, and fake accounts taking over. Having lived in Melbourne since I was 8, it's where I feel at home, which is why this subject was so significant to me. I put immense effort into moderating, tirelessly addressing bad comments, fake accounts, and irrelevant posts. Despite the workload, appreciation was scarce. The subreddits creator, meant to support me as a co-moderator, rarely acknowledged my efforts or contributed to the responsibilties of being a mod. When I sought help due to the overwhelming workload, the response was disappointing. Despite my dedication, the creator refused to consider additional moderation until reaching a certain member count. This refusal was disheartening, leading me to resign as a moderator, as it was no longer sustainable for my mental well-being alongside studying and working full-time. Although I initially enjoyed many aspects of Melbourne girls, there were issues I wanted to address, such as implementing a verification system, which was denied. There were also behind-the-scenes issues with the creator in which we did not see eye to eye. Feeling disillusioned, I decided to create my own subreddit, r/girlsofmelb, implementing the changes I desired. While it's still a work in progress, it's already surpassing Melbourne girls in many aspects. I invite you to join me there, where we prioritise authenticity, are looking to implement a verification system, and swiftly address spam and fake accounts. Your support would mean a lot to me as we strive to create a welcoming and genuine community. Thank you for considering it. I love you all very much, and it hurts to say goodbye to this subreddit ❤️

I worked my ass off for this subreddit for 1.5 years and get daily messages asking why I dont post here anymore. This post is to address those questions. It's not for you. I've also seen a lot of complaints about how this subresdit is being moderated and I wanted to give an explanation for that and offer an alternative. If this upsets you, so be it
