Leaving Reddit after a semi-successful twelve or so months on here following the awareness of this place for hookups. In the beginning, it was good; however, over time a few things happened. One, I hooked up with the people who had intended to follow through and were interested in me. Two, I blocked or ignored the Redditors I wasn’t interested in, and they did the same. Which is fine; we’re not all going to be everyone’s taste. Thirdly, but most annoyingly and really the biggest reason to call it quits was the flakes. I’ll elaborate: I have my own theories about Reddit being a less-than-effective way to hook up. One is that there's a bunch of fake/catfish on here, both locally and from around the world. They want your pics, perhaps to spin a tale about the two of you and then they disappear. Another theory is that many straight-identifying people wander over to these pages, curious and testing the waters. The odds are against you here, but some definitely follow through. It's always a weird experience (mostly for them); they blow their load up your ass and then they're like a stunned fish, eager to leave and filled with shame. That's society's fault, not theirs.

Another is that gays are flaky af; we all know this, easily distracted by the next shiny object. So all that said & considering the time it takes to post, chat, etc., versus the actual number of people that follow through, it's just not worth my time anymore.

As mentioned in a recent post, I'll be keeping my profile active. I moderate the GayHookupMelbourne page with a friend of mine. However, I've taken a back seat to them lately. Reach out to him if you're interested in becoming a Mod; he might need the help.
