I just spent 5 years teaching theatre at a high school in Chattanooga. Moved my whole life from the Boston area to this town where I knew nobody, had no connections, etc. Was once a professional actor (AEA), but gave myself heart and soul to this “new life” so I could kind of…”settle down”? The job allowed for anything but settling.

It was demanding from day-to-night. I directed three shows a year, coproduction a ten minute play festival every year, taught middle and upper school classes, counseled kids (sometimes even their parents…), led a freaking conservatory for music and the arts on the campus, and even pulled numerous 15 or 16 hour days for this thankless institution.

In the end they “dissolved” my position (like it was Alma-Seltzer). It was a rough situation. Even The New York Times wrote about it in a pretty scathing article on what it’s like to produce theatre in 2023 what with all the stupid moral panics people like the Moms For Liberty (I beg their creepy pardon for giving them a shoutout) perpetuate daily now. As a result I’m job hunting (internationally) and just wondering how I got wrapped up with this idiocy…

Anyway, the story is I spent five YEARS of my life so entangled with this place I made very few connections in town…and lost space in my friends’ lives from elsewhere. We’re all on good terms. We’re just all…out of sync… I thought I’d come here and see if there was anyone who liked to chat…about anything really…
