49M [Relationship] How to spot a fake!
Author Summary

Post Body

As much as we all deal with the ghosts on here, and don't get me started on that....

The fakes are evolving.

So, rather than my usual "I'm 49, tall, and handsome and I'm looking for the love of my life, pelase be from NY and younger than me post, I thought I'd share my experience.

The following is from my recent experience only, if you've experienced a different type of fake, feel free to let me know!

How to spot a fake.

Previous fakes:

  • Were always only children.
  • Share obvious fake photos, some from adult film stars.
  • Were almost always nursing students.
  • For some reason always told me they lived in Texas.
  • Always lived with an Aunt or a Grandmother, having always lost their parents in a car accident.
  • Asked me on an almost hourly basis if I've eaten and what I've eaten.
  • Spoke in very general terms, using sometimes bad english, about what they wanted in love, how they wanted to meet someone that treated them like "the queen" how they were mistreated in the past and how they were looking for someone exactly like me.
  • Almost always want to speak via google chat, whatsapp, or telegram. They can't text you ever because their phones are broken for some unexplained reason and they can't send texts.
  • After a few days of flirtatious messages, they suddenly have no money for food and ask me to help them out, or they ask for an Apple gift card so they can "fix their phone," even though a gift card is never how you "fix" an iphone.
  • BLOCK!

However, the fakes are getting smarter, and evolving.

The new crop of fakes:

  • Are 32 years old, and live in Los Angeles.
  • For some reason are all owners or managers of "high end health club."
  • They either live alone or with a sister.
  • As before, send pics that are way too perfect to be real people.
  • Go MIA for a few days, and then return, claiming to be busy.
  • After a few days of similar messages like above, they suddenly run into money problems in their business and desperately ask me to send them money to get their buesinss out of trouble, based on the fact that I am the person they've always been looking for.
  • BLOCK!
  • Alternate:
    • Claim to live in the same state as you.
    • Have a regular type job that keeps them MIA all day.
    • After a few days of very friendly and flirtatious messages, they come out of nowhere with the following admission:
      • "Don't judge me, but I do cam shows on the side. It's only $60, I really want to do that for you before we meet. Here's the link."
    • BLOCK!

There you have it. If anyone on here gets any types of messages from anyone like that, they're a fake. Block and report right away.

The moral of the story?

Cats are better than people.

Also: you're not going to find your love of your life on reddit. Stick to real life for that. Or get a cat.
