Finally, the day has arrived.
Our first date is here.
A perfect Saturday night. The weather is warm but not too warm, it's a perfect sunny day with hardly a cloud in the sky. One of those days where you just take a deep breath of fresh air and enjoy being alive.
After weeks of daily chats, we finally are upon the day we've been talking about.
We finally get to meet.
Our first date.
We met on here and have been texting, chatting, and video chatting for weeks. The chats have been free-flowing, and natural, and we don't feel an age difference at all. The chats are fun, flirty, and interesting, and we don't have to resort to dead-air phrases like......how was your day....or.....got any plans for tonight?
It's like we've always known each other.
We've chatted late into the night. Talking about our lives, our hopes, our dreams. You don't mind my rambling on about tech since I do IT for healthcare and you never miss an episode of my podcast on cats.
You even love the fact that I have 7 cats and can't wait to meet them. I tell you over and over that I know my cats will love you, especially my Sophie, who is very picky with whom she shows her affection.
We've flirted, we've made each other laugh, we've opened up about ourselves, and the chemistry is amazing and free-flowing.
You adore that I'm a corny dork and I try not to make fun of your Taylor Swift song choices. You even liked the Spotify playlists I made with you since I like to express how I feel about someone.
Since we are both on the east coast and since I am old school, I offer to meet somewhere close to you. I offer to pick you up, but you prefer to meet, and I of course respect that.
Since we both love Italian you suggest an Italian place you know close to you. The food is good, but more importantly, it's not too noisy, the music is romantic, and there are plenty of private little tables where we can sit and enjoy being in each other's company. This is a place where we won't be rushed out.
I got my hair cut the day before and I make sure my greying goatee is neatly trimmed. I put on my favorite khaki pants, new shoes, and a navy polo I know you'd like.
Since it's a nice warm day you wear one of your favorite dresses. Not too long, not too short, perfectly appropriate. Hugs your curves perfectly. Your hair is done, you're ready.
I'm ready.
We both set off to meet.
We are both slightly nervous and filled with anticipation.
Amazed that we found each other in this sea of fake people, people who ghost, catfish, and people who we just don't click with or disappear after one day.
Could this be it? Could we have found the one?
We both pull into the parking lot of the restaurant within minutes of each other and park not too far apart.
You exit the car first, and minutes later, I do the same.
After two minutes of searching, we lock eyes in the parking lot.
Your first thought is...whew, he is 6 feet tall like he said he is!
Our eyes lock for what feels like hours.
"There you are," I say, smiling like an idiot. My heart is racing, I'm trying not to have clammy palms.
"Here I am," you say, smiling nervously.
We embrace. We kiss. Just one, small, but passionate kiss.
That chemistry. It's there in real life, even more so.
Holding hands, we go into the restaurant for our last-ever first date.
