Intrusive/horribthoughts?

I'm coming off over-prescribed medication (antidepressants and benzodiazepines) and I have been having horrific intrusive thoughts due to acute withdrawal symptoms.
When I have intrusive thoughts do I let them in or do I tell my brain to stop the thought and try and distract from it?
If I do let them in - is there a phrase or mantra that I could use to help get thru it? Thank you so much for your help and advice everyone as this is a daily, sometimes hourly, struggle for me.
