I know this must be impossible to answer as everyone is going to have their own experience & preferences but I would like to get some opinions advice on where to start. After trying different types of meditation, listening to YouTube videos I am more confused about meditation now than I used to be around 2 years ago when I first acknowledged that it may be something helpful to me. I just want to find something & stick to it but I find it impossible to decide which type of mediation to do. I started with just breath meditation which I believe is concentration meditation & I just could not stick with it. Then I stumbled across Insight meditation where your basically feeling & acknowledging your senses to realise everything is impermanent & I really liked this method. But I read the book The Art of Living & that appeared to say it was best to practice concentration meditation first. Then you have people on here saying this is not the place to ask & you should go on a retreat or get a teacher. What can you do if that is not possible as I am sure people will accept that sometimes it isn't. Is there actually any point practising any form of meditation at home without a teacher etc?
Then you have mindfulness which appears to be similar to insight but practised throughout the day.
I would like to get to a place where I can notice my thinking & emotions but not react to them.
I am just more confused now as to what to do.
Any advice would be appreciated.
