I generally practice breath counting meditation, and I've seen an odd change over time. At first, when my mind wandered, it would generally either wander away from counting, or, more likely, wander while I kept counting breaths beyond ten (the point at which I should be starting over at one). These days, I find if my mind is wandering when I reach ten, I restart my count anyway on auto-pilot. Sometimes I notice my mind has wandered for a few breaths and bring my attention back to the count to find that I'm on two or three!
Does anyone else experience this? Is it a good thing, a bad thing, neither, or both? Sometimes I feel like rather than training my mind to focus, I've merely trained it to do a better job of covering for its wandering. :D
