Does meditation help diminish automatic negative thoughts?

Post Body

I struggle daily every 5-20 minutes with automatic flashbacks to traumatizing events in my life and it causes me frequent distress. So much so that sometimes I think to myself: I can’t wait till I’m dead so I don’t have to deal with it anymore.

My question: Is there anyone who’s struggled with frequently reoccurring intrusive thoughts who has managed to get it under control through meditation?

I’ve also been diagnosed with ADHD so I wonder if that’s just a result of having constant racing thoughts. I also welcome anyone’s experience with ADHD and meditation.

For reference, I can count on hand the number of times I’ve meditated - it’s agonizing to my brain lol but I’m willing to take it seriously if it would help over time. Thanks!
