So. I normally collect ancient coins, most notably Roman imperial coins. I wanted to pick up a French gros tournois at some point. I saw this one on eBay, but something felt off about it, like it was too good to be true. Are there any experts on French coins in here who can help?

Nice one. I have some Deniers of Philip IV and Louis IX but really want a Gros! I also found the random blob next to the cross to be suspect and MAYBE a sign of casting, although I’m much more expert with ancients

Is it possible that it is a die flaw and not an intentional pellet. Not going to bid, just curious

Exactly. Thank you for everything!

Is that one not on Numista yet? I was looking for it

Yeah you’re right.

I wish there was an online index for medievals like there is for Roman Imperial Coins. Until then, I’ll have to polish my admittedly rusty French lol

Thank you so much! I really need to get a book like that! Lol

Ahhhh okay! Thank you

What do you think about my guy’s other coins?

Thank you! I just hope I can get lucky and find a gros without my budget soon. I save most of my money for the Roman coins lol

Only thing is, is that a Philippe IV or III, because this is III as it reads PHILIPVS and not PHILIPPVS. Also where’d you get that book, i need it lol
