In the military I worked near a lot of radiation. It caused the cartilage in my subtalar joints to deteriorate causing a partial fusion or subtalar coalition. The surgery consisted of removing and cartilage that remained in the joint and cleaning up the joint surface. They then pack the joint with donated bone grafts and place 2 permanent titanium screws threw the joint. I will be un crutched for at least 6 weeks and then I'll have a boot brace and start physical therapy. After this is healed completely I will go back and have another surgery to do the same thing on my left foot

Yes. Before the surgery, the joint was fused on one side. This meant that every time I take a step, that partial fuse tries to act like a hinge. I was basically bending a small bone with every step. The surgery completely fuses the joint, eliminating all motion and bending which should relieve the pain

They used a new style screw than the old ones. Doc said he's confident this will heal great with no problems
