Been using the SteelSeries G7 for about a year now (got it free) but have never been quite happy with the Cherry MX Black switches that come with it. Been lurking on the sub and the Anne Pro with brown switches has a lot of features I like at a reasonable price point (also it straight up looks aesthetically pleasing with the small profile and RGB). Is it something I should spring for considering there's nothing technically wrong with the kb I have now? Have I overlooked any keyboards under $75 USD I should be considering?
I know jumping from a G7 to an Anne Pro is quite the difference, so there are some bits of contextual information on features I'd like to have!
Usage: I'm an undergrad honors humanities student who types multiple lengthy papers per semester. After extended typing sessions my fingers always feel pretty fatigued - so looking to switch to brown switches for more tactile typing (hopefully lower actuation force than blacks help!). I also game on this keyboard but it's a secondary function compared to typing.
Location: I live in Singapore so any online recommendations will have to take shipping into account. I do have a reliable taobao forwarder with affordable shipping rates so I'm game for getting kbs there.
Features I'd like:
- brown switches
- backlighting (no need RGB, but a plus)
- 60% to TKL size is fine (but I'd prefer something that's 75% or smaller)
- connecting wire offset to left or right of the kb is a plus, I dislike centered wires (have to route it around my monitor base) but can live with it.
- Doubleshot keycaps (I wear ABS down to shiny really quickly so caps that are more durable are a big plus)
Also, I have a friend offering me a lightly used Tecware Phantom 87 (TKL, white backlighting, Outemu brown switches, ABS doubleshot caps) at around 40 USD. Haven't found many reviews on r/mk on it so not sure whether it's a good buy - can anyone weigh in on this?
