Advice on 2012 Nissan Juke S
Post Body

Hey Everyone,

Looking for some advice on what would be the smart choice given what the mechanic told me. I know enough to get me in trouble but when it comes to $1000s. I value others thoughts and opinions. Especially those that know more than me on the subject.

We had my wife's 2012 Nissan Juke's timing chain replaced last April. Its at about 120,000 miles. With the recall that we had missed... It was understandable worn. Not happy but "it is what it is". We heard a very familiar rattle last week and had it checked out. Turns out its using oil. This wouldn't bother me too much but I'm warry with it having a turbo (heard then can be real pain) and my wife's history of blowing motors.

They recommended one of two options:

• Replace the PCV, with head gasket (if I remember right) valve along with oil lines to and from the turbo. Estimated $1,300
• If its the rings. Its a new motor. Estimated $8,000. The price of cars going up to crazy amounts... Make me consider an new motor a little more than I would have in years past. At least the motor would be under warranty, new, and only real major point of failure would be the transmission.

• I could trade it in. Try to get something pre-certified but I have always been suspicious of "pre-certified"

I asked if they could do a compression test. To confirm or deny if there are bad rings but because Jukes have a turbo they said that was not an option. They wouldn't be able to pinpoint if the rings or the turbo was the trouble. Felt like I have been left in a position to make and uneducated guess.

All that said what's the smart choice here? and why?
